Let’s face it, a lot of people just come to church so that they’ll have a place to bring their kids, in hopes that the kids pick up some good habits and to find relief in the parenting venture. Some also have a desire to be in community with others and to perhaps engage or reengage God. Much of the church, especially in its institutional expressions, focuses overwhelmingly on Children. While that is a vital goal, we are called by Christ to help grow disciples. Most adults who went through church all their lives stopped growing spiritually at the adolescent stage. Because of that, we have adults of all ages who have a teenage spirituality. Others, simply never get started. However you boil down the reasons, the truth of the matter is that most adults don’t have much of a desire or understanding of how to grow spiritually—or if they do have the desire, they aren’t equipped.

The church (politic) has largely ignored the needs and potential of adult growth and faith formation. We’ve largely accepted the notion that learning stops when you get out of school.

There’s a whole world of the life of the spirit—the “with God” life—that is satisfying and that makes a difference in this world. It’s my passion to help make sure you have a place to discover a hunger for closeness with God and confidence that you have the companionship and resources to embark upon or reengage your spiritual life.

At Wieuca we offer a lot of opportunities for learning and community on Sunday mornings:

Our Bible study groups (which some are life-stage oriented and others are topical) are the main way that most people choose to plug in.

However, for some, it still feels too much like “Sunday School” so we have short term classes on Sunday mornings that ebb and flow.

There are also a few other small groups that meet  during the week (which will be expanding and growing as time goes on) that focus on a range of activities and topics.
