Intent
JEPR's intent is to interpret the biblical concept of God's justice for our contemporary culture, to raise the level of personal responsibility in seeing how faith relates to culture and social systems, and keep before our church the question "whether or not the prophetic voice has been c0-opted into the culture of the day." (Walter Brueggemann, Prophetic Imagination).
This intent helps Wieuca become more specific in its quest to be a missional church. It also keeps before us a concept of Christianity that is far more than an emphasis on a personal and private kind of faith. It pushes us all to expand our understanding of Christianity as a faith that embraces the world. Two scriptural foundations are: Mark 12:29-31 and Galatians 6:2.
Direction
Our direction is oriented toward presenting issues that relate to how Christ-followers may practice justice and to consider areas where people are oppressed and mistreated by powerful systems (powers and principalities) of the world. JEPR seeks to relate biblical views of justice to such areas as economics, politics, foreign policy, and military systems, which constantly tempt people to idolatry.
