Michael Tutterow (Senior Pastor)
Michael Tutterow’s ministry has brought him full circle when he returned to Atlanta and joined Wieuca as Senior Pastor on June 26, 2005. Twenty-five years earlier, fresh from college, he had moved to Atlanta to work as a journalist for a denominational agency. A few weeks later, he met Vicki McGaughey; they married in 1981. They have two children: Stephen, an avid tennis player and a student at Centennial High School, and Madeleine, an ice skater/gymnist/cheerleader at Haynes Bridge Middle School. They also have two lazy but loving dogs, Charlie and Chase.

Michael came to Wieuca after having served as Senior Pastor to the family of faith of Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina for the past 11 years. He previously served as Pastor of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Mars Hill, North Carolina. In the 1980s, Michael served as Associate Editor for Baptists Today and Assistant News Editor for the Home Mission Board. Michael completed his Master of Divinity from The Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 and his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1980 from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

He continues to do writing and lead workshops, especially related to issues of change and transition and on the “missional church.” Michael shares a passion for missions and has enjoyed sharing in international projects in Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Mexico.

Michael is also passionate about the local church. He counts himself fortunate to serve congregations where God has brought renewal and purpose to their ministries. He believes God continues to use the local church to change lives and change the world. It gives him great joy to build a community of faith which shares help, hope and a sense of home with others.

Michael’s favorite Bible verses are:

“Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure,” (Ephesians 1:4-5, New Living Translation).

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise,” (Philippians 4:8, New Living Translation).

“Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds,” (Hebrews 10:24, New Living Translation).
